Match Preview: Oxford Cavaliers v Bath Gladiators Rugby League

The Gladiators are on the road for the second successive game as they travel to Oxford in the second round of fixtures in the 2021 West of England league. The game will kick off at 14:30 and both teams are delighted that the removal of Covid restrictions means that fans will be welcome to come along and cheer the teams on.

Bath Gladiators have quickly dusted themselves down from last weeks narrow defeat to Swindon St George A 32-28. The game was a close affair and at one point it looked like Bath would be the victors, however Head coach Matt Bodey is taking a lot of positives out of the match “Coming from a close game last week, I’m looking forward to welcoming back a couple of experienced faces from injury for this week’s game against Oxford. This is a really good opportunity to continue to develop our combinations, and start to build some consistency in our performances, both individually and as a team.”

The Gladiators still have a sizable injury table who will miss the trip to Oxford with Joe Cockshott (Knee) and Michael Salter (Chest) being the most recent additions to the injury list after the Swindon game.

Assistant Coach Miquel Tomas reflecting on the injury list is confident that they will give a good account of themselves on Saturday “Obviously, we have a few injuries at the moment in a number of key positions, but that’s why we have a squad. We lost Mike and Joe to injuries last week but we are welcoming a couple of lads back in Hayden and Sam etc. So while we may be depleted, I think we have enough to cause Oxford some problems during the game.”

Kick-off 14:30 Venue: Merton Village Hall, Bicester, OX25 2NJ
