As part of the club’s new partnership with Spanish Rugby League, Miquel Tomas has come on board as Assistant Coach. Tomas is the current Assistant Coach of the Spanish Rugby League National Squad, also playing for the national team and Spanish Club Valencia Hurricanes. He made his Spanish Rugby League debut against Italy in 2019 and was part of the squad that played professional side Featherstone Rovers in early 2020 coming away with the man of the match award for Valencia. He is also a Loughborough University graduate playing for their Rugby League team while a student in the Premier South division at the top of the University Rugby League structure.
Tomas said, “After speaking to Matt (Head Coach) I am really enthusiastic to get started with the club and help grow the game in Bath”.
Matt Bodey (Bath Rugby League – Head Coach) said, about the appointment, “having had the chance to chat to Miquel, I’m really excited to have him on board as an assistant coach moving forwards. I’m looking forward to helping him develop as a coach, and see how he can develop my knowledge and ability as well, with his interests in Strength & Conditioning, nutrition, and his experience of Rugby League in Europe”.
The club are also really pleased to have retained the services of Matt Bodey as Head Coach ahead of the 2021 season. After starting his coaching journey with Bath Rugby League as Assistant Coach himself ahead of the 2018 season, he progressed to become the clubs Head Coach ahead of the 2019 season. Matt is part of the England Universities Rugby League Representative programme with roles in the coaching set up for both the South of England and South West squads respectively. He is also on the coaching team of the Southern England Lionhearts Community representative squad after a couple of years of working with the West of England squad.
Chris Chatten, General Manager, said, “Miquel is a great addition to the clubs coaching structure and we are pleased to have been able to attract him with support of Spanish Rugby League. This is a really exciting time for Rugby League in Bath. All the players speak really highly of Bodey and his abilities to improve their Rugby skills, and I believe Miquel will complement his coaching style. It is fantastic to have two young enthusiastic coaches who have the passion to grow the sport in the Bath and surrounding area.”
The club are looking forward to return to training on this coming Monday 29th March 2021, 7pm @ Farmborough Recreation Ground, Tilley Lane, Farmborough, BA2 OBE. Please contact Chatten for further details via email: chris.chatten@bathrugbyleague.co.uk or via the clubs social media channels.
